The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa program was created by the Canadian government in December 2011 to allow entrance into Canada to parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. With the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa, parents and grandparents can now visit their family members in Canada for up to two years at a time. This program has been very effective in reuniting family members in Canada with their parents and/or grandparents from abroad as it allows qualified applicants to enter Canada much quicker than other programs. Family sponsorship can take years but the Parent and Grandparent Super Visa process may take as little as eight weeks, allowing family members to see each other sooner and more frequently than they could in the past.
