In-home caregiver program

In-Home Caregivers are individuals who are qualified to provide care for children, elderly persons or persons with disabilities in private homes without supervision. Both the employer and the employee must follow several steps to meet the requirements.

Program Requirements

  • A positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from an employer in Canada
  • A written contract with your future employer, signed by you and the employer
  • A completed equivalent Canadian secondary school (high school) education
  • 6 months’ training or at least 1 year of full-time paid work experience as a caregiver or in a related occupation/field
  • Good knowledge of English or French

When you apply, you may need to also provide proof of a medical exam and/or a police check.
