Each of Canada’s provinces has developed its own Provincial Nominee Program with various options for Canada immigration for individuals looking to immigrate and settle in a specific province in Canada. The province of Nova Scotia offers a life that is disappearing in much of North America. Come to the place where a safe and secure environment, dependable people, and opportunities for your future give you the freedom to achieve great things. The Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (NSPNP) allows for quicker immigration options to individuals who wish to settle in the province of Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia

The Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program allows the province to nominate individuals who will fill the labor shortages and the economic needs of the province. There are several different streams in which you may qualify to apply for immigration under the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program.

This category of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program allows Canadian employers in the province of Nova Scotia to fill labor gaps in skilled positions. Applicants for this category must have a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer.

Canadian Employers in Nova Scotia who wish to employ foreign workers will first be required to show that they have made a genuine effort to recruit qualified Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The position being offered to the foreign worker must be one that is in high demand and difficult to fill. Employers must also show that they will make efforts to assist the new worker to settle in Nova Scotia.

International students who have graduated from a full-time study in Canada may be eligible to apply for this stream of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program. You must apply for the program no more than three years after graduating. You may not apply for the program if you are still studying. International graduates who wish to apply for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program must also have a full-time, permanent job offer which is related to their field of study and must be working for the employer for at least three consecutive months prior to submitting an application for nomination.

Skilled workers who have close family members who reside and work in the province of Nova Scotia may qualify to apply for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program under the Family Business Workers Category. In order to qualify, you must have a close family member who owns a business in Nova Scotia and be qualified to fill a position for which the employer is unable to find Canadian workers. The employer must be established and be able to give you a full-time, permanent job offer prior to submitting your application. They must also show that they have made reasonable efforts to employ Canadians and that the job being offered is in a high-demand occupation.

Non-dependent adult children of Nova Scotia nominees who wish to enter the labour market may be eligible to do so by applying for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program. As an applicant in this stream, you must show that you are qualified, prepared and capable to work in Canada and contribute to the economic growth of the province.

To be eligible for this stream of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program, you must be over the legal age to be considered an adult and you must not be dependent on anyone. You must also have a parent who was nominated under the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program. In order to apply for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program under this stream, your parents must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Must have been nominated under the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program
  • Must have included the child (applicant) in your original application to the Nova Scotia Nominee Program
  • Must have established a family residence in Nova Scotia within six (6) months of obtaining permanent residence in Canada, and have remained a resident of the province since then.
  • If the parent is a newly arrived immigrant, they must have been a resident of Nova Scotia for at least three (3) consecutive months prior to submitting this application for the non-dependent child. Please note that this option only applies to nominees who have just obtained their permanent residence in Canada.
  • Must remain a resident of Nova Scotia throughout the application process and must still be a resident at the time of the child’s arrival in Nova Scotia.
NOTE:

Nominees who have left the province of Nova Scotia and lived in another Canadian province are no longer considered residents of Nova Scotia. As per the minimum requirements above, your child will therefore be ineligible to apply under this stream.

In addition to the requirements above, you must meet the basic requirements of the program including having a minimum of one year full-time work experience. You must be employable in a position which is in high-demand in the province and for which the employer has been unable to find Canadian workers. Our immigration consultants can help you determine if you are eligible for this program based on your work experience, education and other factors. The Nova Scotia Office of Immigration together with the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture has developed the Agri-Food Sector of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program in an effort to strengthen rural communities by creating jobs and aiding in the economic growth of the province.

This stream of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program is aimed at individuals who plan to establish a business in Nova Scotia in the agriculture sector for primary and/or value-added production. Prior to being nominated for this program, applicants will be required to come to Canada for an exploratory visit to the province of Nova Scotia. You will need to apply for and be issued a Canada Business Visitor Visa to research farming opportunities in Nova Scotia. As a part of this visit, you will be required to meet with representatives of the Department of Agriculture as well as an immigration officer.

Individuals who are interested in immigration through the Agri-Food Sector of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program must meet the following basic requirements:

  • You must have a minimum three (3) years of experience in owning, managing, and running a farm. You must have the required skills which are relevant to the farming conditions of Nova Scotia.
  • You must have plans to establish or purchase a farm or to become a partner in an existing farm business in which you control at least 1/3 of the business and be active in the operation of the business.
  • You must have a minimum personal net worth of $150,000 Canadian.
  • You must make a minimum investment of $100,000 in a new or existing farm operation.
  • You will need to submit a detailed business plan and show that your farm will meet the minimum annual revenue of $10,000 Canadian.

Keep in mind that meeting the basic eligibility criteria above does not guarantee you a nomination or permanent residence. As this is a long and complex application process, it is recommended to have a knowledgeable and experienced immigration consultant by your side to avoid any errors in your application. Our immigration consultants can assist you in applying for and obtaining the appropriate visa and will guide you on how to fulfill all the requirements of your visit as well as preparing you for your interview and meetings in Canada. We will prepare and submit your application for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program from start to finish and remain by your side throughout the process so that you do not get overwhelmed. The Community Identified Category of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program is for individuals with strong connections to a Nova Scotia community who wish to establish permanent residence in the province and have excellent employment prospects. You must also be able to show that you will be an asset to the province and that you will contribute to the labour market and economy of the Nova Scotia community. In addition to meeting the basic requirements of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program, applicants will need to obtain a Letter of Identification from an Office of Immigration mandated organization prior to applying for program.

Please Note: Only applicants who do not qualify for any of the other categories of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program are eligible to apply for the Community Identified Stream. Please review the other categories available or call our office to find out if you qualify for this or any other category of the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program.

Applicants for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program must show that they will be an asset to Canada and will actively and continuously aid in the growth of the economy and the creation of jobs for Canadians. Keep in mind that meeting the basic requirements for the program does not guarantee you approval into the program. The process of applying for the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program varies depending on your current situation and status as well as many other important details. As every situation is different, it is important to assess your individual needs and responsibilities on a case-by-case basis before deciding which immigration option is best for you and your family.
