  • Work on Campus: You may work on campus at the institution where you study without a work permit if:
  • Work off Campus: Study permit holders in Canada may gain work experience by working off campus while completing their studies.

  • Work as a co-op student or intern: For some academic programs, work experience is part of the curriculum. Foreign students who wish to participate in a co-op or internship program must apply for a work permit as well as a study permit.
  • Help your spouse or common-law partner work in Canada: Work permits for your spouse or common-law partner are valid for the same period of time as your study permit.
  • Work in Canada after graduation: Get a post-graduation work permit or immigrate permanently through the Canadian Experience Class
